mistake #3 – your on your own kid
This is one that will probably be on my mistakes of 2009 because I still haven’t developed a process. Last year if a student accepted Christ there was no process in place to guide students into GROWING in Jesus. Now, discipleship is something that seems to be going the way of the dodo but my Bible says that it is a requirement. We are not to make converts but to make disciples. We preach the Word from the pulpit and encourage students to read the Bible but don’t do anything to help them along in the journey. Small Groups are even built assuming some basic biblical knowledge. So, we had over 50 students accept Christ, get baptized and then said “your on your own”. Then dare to be frustrated because they are still so immature spiritually.
God forgive us.
Your mistakes are very sombering. I’m almost scared to hear what the top 2 will be. And the tougher part will be that now that you have identified these flaws, you and your leadership will held even more accountable for not fixing them.
In light of that, how blessed your church is to have someone sensitive enough to realize they/he can’t do any of it without the power of the Holy Spirit in his life.
AYM continues to be in my prayers.
Hey Sean!
A suggestion to think about it….
What about doing small home groups other times during the week? Maybe you can find a few parents or other church volunteers who would be willing to open their home for a couple of hours each week so students can get together on a smaller basis. Of course, this would require more leaders, or, why not let a variety of students lead study each week. I’m sure with 200+ students you can find a few who can prepare a lesson and teach it.
